UW-Oshkosh Takes Hold of Midwest Ten Conference Lead (2-5-17)
UW-Oshkosh, winners of the last three National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I national titles, swept all six of its opponents at the Midwest Ten Conference Play Date held Saturday (Feb. 4) in Milwaukee.

UW-Oshkosh (7-0) defeated UW-Milwaukee 25-12, 25-18, Iowa State University 25-22, 25-17, DePaul University 25-15, 25-17, University of Notre Dame 25-16, 25-22, Illinois State University 25-8, 25-19 and Marquette University 26-24, 25-20.

With the win over the Golden Eagles the Titans take a one game lead over them with two matches to go in the conference slate. UW-Oshkosh will finish out the Midwest Ten Conference regular season against Ball State University and Northern Illinois University on Saturday (Feb. 18) in DeKalb, Illinois.

The Titans have previously claimed regular season conference titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. UW-Oshkosh finished second in 2009, 2014 and 2016.

The Titans rolled over the Panthers in the first match of the day behind five kills from Tony Mack (Sr. - Muskego) and Peter Nordel (Sr. - Torrance, Calif.) and seven digs by Jake Martin (So. - New Lenox, Ill.). Wesley Morioka (Sr. - Chicago, IIl.) added three blocks and Travis Hudson (Sr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 18 assists. The Titans hit .400 in the match behind 25 kills.

Morioka led the Titans with 10 kills against the Cyclones and Travis Hudson collected 18 assists, six digs and four blocks. Sammy Pedersen (Sr. - Muskego) added six kills and five digs, Nordel stopped three blocks and Sam Moua (Sr. - Appleton) had four digs.

Hudson spread out the offense in its win over conference newcomer DePaul University as six players had three or more kills led by Devin Hudson (So. - Wauwatosa) with six put aways. Pedersen provided two service aces and five kills and Tony D'Acquisto (So. - Franklin) had three blocks.

Pedersen led the Titans with seven kills and two service aces and Travis Hudson dialed up 19 assists in the Titans win over the Irish. D'Acquisto added five blocks, Mack five kills and seven digs and Brandon Schmidt (Gr. - Kaukauna) had four kills and five blocks. Travis Hudson added five digs and three blocks.

In the trashing of the Redbirds the Titans were led by Morioka with six kills, Devin Hudson with four blocks and Travis Hudson with 17 assists. The Titans had 26 kills on a .512 hitting percentage.

In another marquee battle with the host Golden Eagles, the Titans came back from a 23-21 deficit in set one to claim the close first set victory before taking the match after building a 23-16 lead in set two.

Martin came up big in the back court with eight digs and Devin Hudson had seven kills to lead the Titans. Nordel piled up five blocks and four kills, Morioka had six kills and Travis Hudson had 18 assists, two service aces and four blocks.

"The day was meant as a measuring stick on how we were doing as a team," said Head Coach Brian Schaefer. "We were able to insert many different line-ups and
the guys played focus, hard-nosed volleyball no matter what the line-up. They played very well today."

In a balanced offense Pedersen led the team on the day with 28 kills and added five service aces and 16 digs. Martin topped the team with 23 digs, Nordel had 14 blocks and hit .529 on 22 kills and Devin Hudson added 25 kills, a .459 hitting percentage and nine blocks. Morioka finished with 23 kills on a .457 hitting percentage and Travis Hudson dished out 109 assists and tallied 14 blocks.

"Sammy Pedersen really shined today," added Schaefer. "After being in a reserve role last year he has really improved his overall game. He works very hard and has tremendous athletic ability. We have a very talented team from top to bottom and it was nice to see each team member supporting each other throughout the day."
