UW-Oshkosh Falls to Marquette University in Third Meeting of the Season (2-24-17)
In the third match of the season against #13 Marquette University, the #1 UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team could not overcome inconsistent play and fell 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 11-15 to fall into a first place tie in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference.

UW-Oshkosh had previously beaten Marquette University at the Midwest Ten Conference play date and conference championship earlier in February, but could not find any offensive rhythm in the loss. The Titans were hampered by 23 hitting errors and were dug 55 times.

UW-Oshkosh (12-1 / 1-1 WVC) lost its first match of the season and had its 36-match winning streak snapped dating back to last year.

Brandon Schmidt (Gr. - Kaukauna) led the team with 12 kills and Devin Hudson (So. - Wauwatosa) and Peter Nordel (Sr. - Torrence, Calif) each added 11 in the loss. Jake Martin came up big in the back court with 14 digs, Wesley Morioka (Sr. - Chicago, Ill.) added 11 digs and three blocks and Travis Hudson (Sr. - Wauwatosa) had 45 assists, 10 digs and five blocks. Devin Hudson led the team with eight blocks and Nordel added six as the Titans had 15.5 total in the match.

"Despite finding success early in the season we are still trying to find ourselves as a team," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "Losing the players from last year's team to graduation and the loss of Allen Grunert (Sr. - Muskego) to injury has been hard to replace on the emotional side of the game. We have the talent, we just need to find a way to mesh that with energy on the court."

The normally potent Titans offense only hit .276 on the night, finding it hard to get kills against the Golden Eagles defense. UW-Oshkosh only registered two service aces to go along with 11 service errors. Up 8-6 in set five, the Titans were outscored 9-3 to end the match.

"It was the classic example of a team that wanted it more than the other," added Schaefer. "They played great tonight and deserved the victory."
