UW-Oshkosh Wins Three Matches Over Weekend (3-7-17)
The UW-Oshkosh men’s volleyball team won all three of its matches over the weekend, including two in three-set sweeps to improve to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference. The Titans dispatched WVC foe UW-River Falls 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 and non-conference opponent North Dakota State University 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 on Saturday (March 3) in River Falls and WVC rival UW-Eau Claire 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 on Sunday (March 4) in Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh, currently ranked #1 in the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll, were led by Brandon Schmidt (Gr. – Kaukauna) with nine kills against the Falcons. Travis Hudson (Sr. – Wauwatosa) piled up 23 assists, five service aces and three blocks, Peter Nordel (Sr. – Torrence, Calif.) added six kills and five blocks and Wesley Morioka (Sr. – Chicago, Ill.) tallied three service aces. Sammy Pedersen (Sr. – Muskego) led the team with four digs and added six kills and two blocks and Tony D’Acquisto (So. – Franklin) finished the match with two blocks.

Morioka topped the team with eight kills and four service aces in the sweep over the Bison. Hudson had 20 assists and five blocks, D’Acquisto added five blocks and Pedersen provided three service aces. Nordel tallied six kills and four blocks in two sets of action. The Titans had ten service aces and 13 blocks as a team.

After a slow start offensively, the Titans found life to pull out a close second set before dominating sets three and four in the win over the Blugolds. UW-Oshkosh only hit .185 in set one and .120 in set two before improving to .681 on 16 kills in set three and .259 on 13 kills in set four.

Hudson had a dominating performance with eight kills, 31 assists, five digs and four blocks to pace the Titans comeback. Schmidt added 10 kills, Pedersen nine kills and three blocks and Jake Martin (So. – New Lenox, Ill.) scooped up 15 digs.

D’Acquisto tallied 10 kills on a .571 hitting percentage and Nordel added six kills on a .416 kill rate, while adding five blocks. The Titans struggled behind the service line with only four service aces on 14 service errors. UW-Oshkosh did manage nine blocks, including six in the last two sets.
