UW-Oshkosh II Survives Three-Set Win Over UW-Oshkosh III to Win WVC Division II State Championship (4-9-17)
The UW-Oshkosh II team won its eighth straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II State Championship to cap a perfect season in the conference on Friday and Saturday (April 7-8) in Menomonee Falls. The Titans went 4-0 during the weekend and 16-0 during the regular season to capture both WVC championships.

UW-Oshkosh II (48-5) started the state championship by beating UW-La Crosse II 25-18, 25-17 on Friday and UW-Stout 25-5, 25-11 on early Saturday to win its initial pool of the tournament. Mitch Lahmann (Sr. – Wauwatosa) and Alex Basting (So. – Franklin) led the offensive attack with seven kills each as the Titans piled up 25 kills on 51 attempts against the Eagles.

Adam Landgraf (Sr. – Kenosha) dished out 23 assists, Basting topped the team with seven digs and Michael Starzec (Sr. – Buffalo Grove, Ill.) had a team-leading three blocks. Sam Moua (Sr. – Appleton) added six digs and John Collins (So. – New Berlin) and Lahmann had two blocks.

In the one-sided affair against the Blugolds, Lahmann led the Titans with five kills and Ryan Albers (Jr. – Appleton) and Collins had four as the Titans hit .611 in the rout. Moua provided five service aces and four digs and Landgraf tallied 12 assists and four service aces.

In the semifinals against Winona State University the Titans came back from a 20-16 deficit in set two to pull out a 25-16, 27-25 victory. Lahmann led the team with nine kills on 12 attempts and added two blocks. Landgraf ran the offense with 22 assists and had four digs and two blocks, Moua topped the team with seven digs and Albers had two service aces. Basting and Collins added six kills and Braeden Melton (Sr. – Beloit) had two solo blocks.

In the championship match UW-Oshkosh II started off slow before rebounded for a 20-25, 25-17, 15-11 victory over UW-Oshkosh III. Starzec led the offensive charge with nine kills on 15 attempts, Collins and Lahmann each scooped up nine digs and Basting had four blocks, including three solo stuffs. Landgraf directed the offense with 27 assists and Lahmann ended the match with seven kills.

The match ended with a solo block and then a kill by Basting giving the UW-Oshkosh II team the perfect WVC regular season and state championship. Starzec and Collins were named to the six-team all-tournament team and Landgraf earned his fourth WVC State Championship most valuable player honor.
