UW-Oshkosh II Takes Second at MIVA Championship (4-3-17)
The UW-Oshkosh II men’s volleyball team took second place at the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Division II Championship on Saturday and Sunday (April 1-2) in DeKalb, Illinois.

UW-Oshkosh II started off the tournament with a 25-22, 25-16 win over Purdue University II and the University of Illinois II 25-19, 25-17 to win their first pool. In their challenge match they were defeated by the University of Wisconsin II 21-25, 25-22, 15-13 for their first loss to a second team this season.

In their first match against the Boilermakers, Sam Moua (Sr. – Appleton) led the Titans with a match-high 12 digs and Tony Mack (Sr. – Muskego) slammed down eight kills. Braeden Melton (Sr. – Beloit) added six kills and Adam Landgraf (Sr. – Kenosha) had 18 assists and four digs.

In the win over the Illini, Mack provided a team leading six kills and added five blocks and Melton had five blocks as the Titans totaled 10 blocks in the match. Landgraf dished out 15 assists and had eight digs and two blocks and Michael Starzec (Sr. – Buffalo Grove, Ill.) had three blocks. Mitch Lahmann (Sr. – Wauwatosa) contributed four kills and six digs.

In the match against the Badgers, Mack led the team with 11 kills, followed by Lahmann with six and Alex Basting (So. – Franklin) and Melton with five each. Landgraf ran the offense to a tune of 26 assists and Melton had three blocks. The Titans did not have a service ace in the match and only recorded 19 total digs.

In championship play on Sunday, UW-Oshkosh II dominated Michigan State University III, 25-11, 25-15 behind 20 assists, six digs and three service aces by Landgraf. Eli Miller (So. – Burlington) topped the team with six digs and Starzec had three blocks, including two solo stuffs. 10 UW-Oshkosh players recorded at least one kill in the rout.

In the quarterfinals the Titans once again got by Purdue University II by set scores of 25-19, 25-14. Mack slammed down eight kills and Landgraf directed the offense with 25 assists and also had five digs. Starzec had three blocks and Melton and Basting each had two stuffs.

In the semifinals UW-Oshkosh II fought back from a first set loss and being down 19-14 in set two to post a 21-25, 27-25, 15-11 win over Indiana University II. Mack had a tournament high 13 kills and Lahmann added 11 kills and Melton nine put aways. Landgraf amassed 40 assists and had six digs. Mack and Moua saved nine digs and Starzec had four blocks.

In the championship match the Titans once again fell to the Badgers in set scores of 25-23, 25-18. Landgraf had 22 assists and also had five digs. Mack provided the offense for the Titans with 10 kills and Moua had eight digs in the backcourt. UW-Oshkosh II struggled at the net recording only one block and also only had one service ace.
