UW-Oshkosh Falls in Quarterfinal of the MIVA Championship (3-26-18)
The UW-Oshkosh men’s volleyball team reached the quarterfinal round of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament held on Saturday and Sunday (March 24-25) in East Lansing, Michigan.

UW-Oshkosh (29-10) entered the tournament as the #13 ranked team in the latest Division I National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll. On Saturday the Titans defeated the University of Iowa, 25-19, 25-22, #15 University of Cincinnati, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13 and #12 Indiana University, 23-25, 25-14, 21-19. In the Gold Bracket on Sunday, UW-Oshkosh defeated Western Michigan University 25-18, 25-15 before falling to #6 University of Wisconsin, 14-25, 25-15, 15-13 to finish fifth.

Against the Hawkeyes , Nick Davies (So. – Waukesha) led the Titans with nine kills and added nine assists. Sam Moua (Sr. – Appleton) dished out 11 assists, Jake Martin (Jr. – New Lenox, Ill.) provided 11 digs and Peter Nordel (Sr. – Torrance, Calif.) and Brandon Schmidt (Gr. – Kaukauna) each slammed down five kills.

Schmidt led the Titans with 10 kills against the Bearcats. Moua topped the team with 14 assists and Nate Leitermann (Sr. – Brookfield) had eight kills and two blocks. Nordel chipped in seven kills and two blocks, Martin added five digs and one service ace and Alex Basting (Jr. – Franklin) had five kills.

The Titans came back for the second consecutive match after losing a close first set to upset the Hoosiers. Basting came up big with 12 kills and added three blocks. Leitermann led the Titans with seven blocks and provided four kills, Davies dished out 18 assists and tallied four kills and four blocks and Moua had nine helpers.

John Collins (Jr. – New Berlin) had six kills, Nordel piled up nine kills and five blocks and Schmidt had nine kills and three blocks. The Titans had 44 kills and 14 blocks in the match.

In dominating the Broncos the Titans had six players with three or more kills. Collins led the team with five digs and Martin provided three service aces. Davies had five kills and 11 assists and Moua dealt out eight assists.

Davies led the Titans in the narrow loss to the Badgers with seven kills, 12 assists, three service aces and two solo blocks. Nordel added five kills and three blocks and Basting had seven kills and two blocks. Moua had seven assists and two service aces and Sammy Pedersen (Sr. – Muskego) led the team with five digs.
