UW-Oshkosh II Wins WVC Division II State Championship in Thrilling Affair (4-8-18)
The UW-Oshkosh II men’s volleyball team won its ninth straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II State Championship with a thrilling 25-19, 24-26, 17-15 victory over UW-Eau Claire II on Saturday (April 7) in Menomonee Falls.

UW-Oshkosh II (35-8) was led by Matt Aussem (Fr. – Glendale) in the championship with nine kills and added three blocks and five digs. Quinn Arndt (So. – Muskego) scooped up 21 digs and collected three service aces, including the match winner in set three.
Eaven Mason (So. – Milwaukee) had seven kills and five blocks, Ryan Albers (Sr. – Appleton) had 38 assists, three blocks and seven digs and Reed Bogrand (So. – Mukwonago) had six kills and four blocks. Steve Seaman (So. – Muskego) added eight kills, seven digs and three service aces. The Titans has 42 digs in the match.

In the semifinals UW-Oshkosh dispatched of UW-Stevens Point, a team ranked #20 in the latest NCVF Division II poll, 25-18, 25-20. Albers dished out 23 assists and added three blocks and six digs. Mason provided seven kills and three blocks, Seaman eight kills and six digs and Arndt had 15 digs. Andrew Shea (Sr. – Brookfield) had three service aces and Joey Mack (Jr. – Muskego) provided four kills and three blocks.

On Friday (April 6) the Titans took first in their opening pool by slipping by Carroll University, 25-19, 26-24 and dispatching UW-Stout, 25-19, 25-20.

On the day Mason led the team with eight kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Eli Miller (Jr. – Burlington) dialed up 31 assists and had eight digs and Aussem, Bogrand, Adam Branch (Fr. – Downers Grove, Ill.) and Seaman all had seven kills. Arndt led the team with 21 digs and six service aces and Shea added eight digs and three service aces in the two matches.

In a battle of the top teams in the opening pools on Friday, UW-Oshkosh beat UW-River Falls, 25-14, 25-19 and UW-Eau Claire II, 25-23, 25-15 to open play on Saturday.

In those two matches, Aussem led the team with 10 kills, followed by Seaman with nine and Mason with eight put downs. Mason led the team with three blocks and two service aces and Arndt led the team with 10 digs. Albers provided 33 assists and seven digs and Steve Cotton (Sr. – Muskego) tallied six kills on a .550 hitting percentage.

Albers was named the WVC Division II State Championship Most Valuable Player after the match. Arndt and Mason joined him on the seven-member team. The Titans earned the season sweep of winning both the WVC regular season and State Championship titles for the ninth consecutive season.
