Oshkosh I Sweeps Opponents at WVC Play Date (2-1-10)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team started the 2010 campaign in convincing fashion by sweeping its three opponents at the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference play date held on Sunday (Jan. 31) in Sheboygan.
The Titans (3-0) defeated UW-Stevens Point 25-20, 25-13, 25-21, UW-La Crosse 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 and UW-Stout 25-13, 25-18, 25-13.
Dan Ruys (Jr. - Kimberly) led UW-Oshkosh against the Pointers with 10 kills in 12 errorless attempts. Mike Cotter (Sr. - Appleton) added nine kills, Tyler Boddy (Jr. - New Ulm, Minn.) eight digs and three service aces and Aaron Wayne (Sr. - New Berlin) 21 assists and two service aces.
The Eagles were dominated by the 14 kills and 11 digs of Boddy. Nate Sederberg (Sr. - Racine) dished out 20 assists and added seven kills, five digs, three blocks and two service aces and Wayne scooped up 13 digs. Andy Schinner (Jr. - Mequon) provided 13 assists, Ruys seven kills and Hessling four blocks and three service aces.
UW-Oshkosh remained undefeated against UW-Stout as six players had at least four kills, including seven by Zach Johnson (Fr. - Mequon) and Cotter. Schinner dished out 25 assists and had seven digs and three service aces and Cotter amassed nine digs and four blocks. Johnson had three blocks and Hessling and Eric Xiong (Fr. - Green Bay) each had two service aces.
