Five Titans Named to All-American Team, Boddy Named Player of the Year (4-12-11)
Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.), who led the UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team to the 2011 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I national championship, was named the NCVF Division I national player of year after the championship match on Saturday (April 9). Boddy, who was also named the Midwest Ten Conference and Wisconsin Volleyball Conference most valuable player earlier in the season, joins Mike Semrad (2006) and Andrew Sederberg (2007) as UW-Oshkosh Division I national player of the year recipients. Nick Mueller (So. - Kenosha) was named the NCVF Division III national player of the year after leading the Titans to the 2010 NCVF Division III national championship last season as a member of the UW-Oshkosh second team. Named to the NCVF All-American First Team were Bill Meidenbauer (Jr. - Waukesha) and Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly). Both Meidenbauer and Ruys were named to the WVC First Team, with Ruys named to the Midwest Ten Conference First Team and Meidenbauer getting a Second Team nod. Meidenbauer was also a NCVF Division I All-American Second Team selection in 2009 after helping the Titans to a runner-up finish during that season. Zach Johnson (So. - Mequon) and Andy Schinner (Sr. - Mequon) rounded out the Titans All-American selections when both were named to the NCVF Division I All-American Honorable Mention team. Both were named to the 2011 WVC Honorable Mention team. The Titans finished the season with a 57-6 record after also winning the WVC and Midwest Ten Conference regular season and tournament titles. UW-Oshkosh, who took second-place at the Hoosier-Illini Classic, Las Vegas Open and Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Championship completed the national championship tournament with a 9-0 record during the three-day event to claim their third Division I national title. UW-Oshkosh survived three, three-set matches, including beating Utah Valley University 18-16 in the third set in Friday's action and Indiana University 15-13 in the deciding set in the national semifinals. In all three of the Titans' tournament runner-up finishes during the regular season, UW-Oshkosh lost the match in the third set, including twice to Indiana University.
