Pioneers Settle Score With Titans (2-6-08)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team struggled offensively, only hitting .089 and lost 26-30, 14-30, 32-30, 25-30 to Northland Baptist Bible College on Tuesday (Feb. 5) in Dunbar. The Titans previously had beaten the Pioneers in four games to open their season at home on January 24.
The first two games were all Northland Baptist Bible College as UW-Oshkosh could only muster 13 kills on 68 attempts to go along with 14 hitting errors.
Led by Miles Kraczek's (Jr. • Cameron) six kills in the third game, UW-Oshkosh (7-3) held at least a three-point lead for most of the stanza. After the Pioneers went on a four-point run to tie the score at 23-23, Luke Wyngaard (Fr. • Kimberly) and Mike Heup (Fr. • Oconomowoc) combined for two consecutive blocks to help the Titans to a two-point cushion.
After trading points, UW-Oshkosh benefited from a Northland Baptist Bible College hitting error to take a three-point lead and held game point at 29-26. After a side-out by the Pioneers brought the score to 29-27 in favor of the Titans, the hosts recorded a service ace and received two points off of Titans' hitting errors to serve for match point.
Wyngaard ended the three-point run with a kill and the Titans ended the game with a service ace by Kraczek and a kill by Andy Collins (Fr. • Germantown). UW-Oshkosh had a match-high 13 kills in the game and received six blocks from Wyngaard.
Despite the momentum of the third-game victory, the Titans' offense went stagnant again as the Pioneers started off strong and maintained at least a four-point lead after jumping ahead 12-5.
Kraczek was the only Titans player with double-double kills with 12. Wyngaard finished the night with nine blocks and eight kills and Heup had 23 assists. Brian Fox (Fr. • Fond du Lac) contributed nine assists, seven digs and three service aces and Mark Beck (Jr. • Darboy) had 10 digs, six kills and four service aces.
