Titans Tame Pointers (2-18-08)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team remained undefeated in Wisconsin Volleyball Conference action with a dominating 30-20, 30-17, 30-14 performance over UW-Stevens Point in a match held on Monday (Feb. 18) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Oshkosh (23-1/5-0 WVC) trailed only once in the match, 2-0 in game one as the Titans defeated the Pointers for the 29 straight time, a span of 12 years.
The Titans exploded out of the gate by smashing down 19 kills out of 30 attempts in the first game for a .600 hitting percentage. Nate Sederberg (Sr. • Racine) led the team with six kills and John Erickson (Sr. • Ripon) and Danny Hessling (Jr. • Greenfield) added four each.
UW-Oshkosh added 19 kills in game two as well, limiting UW-Stevens Point to only one point on their serve. Tyler Boddy (Fr. • New Ulm, Minn.) and Hessling chipped in four kills in the stanza.
The Titans, currently ranked number one in the latest NIRSA Division I poll, enjoyed the sweep by relying on Hessling and Sederberg in game three. Hessling added four kills and Sederberg put away four kills and added three service aces in game three.
For the match Sederberg finished with 13 kills on 19 errorless attempts and added five digs and four service aces. Hessling chipped in 12 kills and Boddy finished with seven kills and four digs. Dan Ruys (Fr. • Appleton) managed seven kills and two blocks and Brandon Kirkland (Sr. • Racine) dished out 30 assists.
