Titans Wallop Warhawks (2-20-08)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won its 16th consecutive match with a 30-20, 30-24, 30-26 drubbing of UW-Whitewater in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match held on Wednesday (Feb. 20) in Whitewater. With the win the Titans remain on top of the WVC standings with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Titans, currently ranked number one in the country according to the latest NIRSA Division I poll, managed 50 kills on 95 attempts for a .421 hitting percentage. The left side hitting duo of Tyler Boddy (Fr. • New Ulm, Minn.) and Nate Sederberg (Sr. • Racine) led the team with 13 kills each.
After only slamming down 12 total kills total in game one, UW-Oshkosh erupted for 20 in game two and 18 in game three. The Titans had Boddy and Sederberg register five each in games two and three and Danny Hessling (Jr. • Greenfield) four in the last stanza.
Although hampered with 17 service errors in the match, the Titans were able to rack up 12 service aces, including four by Sederberg. Aaron Wayne (Sr. • New Berlin) led UW-Oshkosh in the back court with 12 digs and Sederberg added eight and Boddy seven on the night.
Other Titans contributed to the win over the 24th ranked Warhawks were John Erickson (Sr. • Ripon) with eight kills, Dan Ruys (Fr. • Appleton) with three blocks and Andy Schinner (Fr. • Mequon) with 42 assists. Hessling added three service aces and Boddy three blocks.
