UW-Oshkosh Weathers Cyclones (2-19-08)
The UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team relied on the middle blocking duo of Jordan Mattingly (Fr. • Kaukauna) and Gus Odorizzi (Fr. • Pleasant Prairie) to pull out a 30-21, 30-16, 31-29 sweep of UW-Fox Valley in a non-conference game held on Tuesday (Feb. 19) in Appleton.
Mattingly finished the night with 11 kills on 16 attempts, while Odorizzi hit a mind-numbing .895 with 18 kills on 19 attempts as the Titans finished with 49 kills in the contest. Odorizzi pitched in four blocks in the win.
UW-Oshkosh breezed through the first two games as Odorizzi had five kills in the first game and Mattingly six in the second game. Jim Hall (Jr. • Appleton) chipped in three service aces in the second game.
UW-Fox Valley made things interesting in the third game by building leads of 17-9 and 25-17. Trailing 28-23, the Titans scored six consecutive points to take a 29-28 advantage. Odorizzi, who was a perfect nine for nine in kill attempts during the game, had four kills during the scoring run.
The Cyclones avoided one match point to pull even at 29-29, before Odorrizi ended the contest with consecutive kills. Ryan Schultz (Fr. • Wauwautosa) dished out 15 assists in the game.
Kurt Breier (Sr. • Kimberly) added four blocks and three service aces and Bradie Williams (Fr. • Cross Plains) added 27 helpers for the Titans. Mike Cotter (So. • Appleton) contributed six blocks and three service aces and Mike Callaway (Sr. • Waukesha) collected five kills and four digs.
