Oshkosh Loses in Semi-Final of Hoosier Illini Classic (2-24-08)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team had its 39-match winning streak snapped against NIRSA club teams by falling to #11 University of Central Florida in the semifinals of the Hoosier-Illini Classic held on Saturday and Sunday (February 23-24) in Bloomington, Indiana. The Titans were the two-time defending champions.

UW-Oshkosh entered the 34-team tournament as the #1 seed overall and held their seed through out the first day's pool play format. They defeated Purdue University 25-13, 25-20, Indiana University II 25-20, 25-9 and SUNY-Buffalo 22-25, 25-13, 15-7. The Titans also defeated #14 Ohio State University 25-20, 20-25, 15-11 in the day's final cross-over match.

John Erickson (Sr. • Ripon) led the team against the Boilermakers with nine kills and Eric Waite (So. • Madison) had seven digs. Brandon Kirkland (Sr. • Racine) had 14 assists and Nate Sederberg (Sr. • Racine) contributed seven kills.

Aaron Wayne (Sr. • New Berlin) led the team against the Hoosiers with eight digs. Kirkland dished out 11 assists and Danny Hessling (Jr. • Greenfield) slammed down six kills.

Erickson had eight kills and five blocks against the Bengals with Wayne dishing out 29 assists. Dan Ruys (Fr. • Kimberly) had six blocks and Hessling added seven kills and three blocks.

The Titans won the match against the Buckeyes despite hitting only .091 as a team. Erickson managed eight kills and Wayne tallied six digs. Kirkland led the offense with 15 assists with Andy Schinner (Fr. • Mequon) adding 10 assists. Ruys added four blocks and five kills.

On Sunday, UW-Oshkosh started out flat against a very good University of Illinois II team, but bounced back in the match's final two games to take the match 19-25, 25-20, 15-10. The team had little trouble fending off #22 Michigan State University 25-16, 25-17 before losing to #11 University of Central Florida 25-20, 25-21.

Erickson led the team against the Illini with 11 kills on 13 errorless attempts and added five blocks with Schinner dishing out 27 assists. Tyler Boddy (Fr. • New Ulm, Minn.) scooped up six digs. The Titans slammed down 11 kills on 14 attempts in the third game.

The Titans hit .512 against the Spartans on 25 kills on 43 kills with only three hitting errors. Boddy and Sederberg led the team with six kills each. Schinner contributed 19 assists and Sederberg and Wayne each had six digs.

UW-Oshkosh was led by the six kills by Boddy against the Knights. Hessling had five kills on five attempts and Schinner had 21 assists. The Titans only managed two service aces in the match and were aced six times.
