UW-Oshkosh II Sweeps UW-Stevens Point (3-4-08)
Behind a solid performance from senior Kurt Breier (Sr. • Kimberly), the UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team manhandled UW-Stevens Point , 30-25, 30-21, 30-18 in a match held on Tuesday (March 4) in Kolf Sports Center. Breier was responsible for seven kills, four blocks and three digs in his last home game in a Titans' uniform.
UW-Oshkosh (20-6) slammed down 23 kills in the first game to set the pace for the rest of the match. Mike Cotter (So. • Appleton) led the team with nine kills in the first game and Mike Callaway (Sr. • Waukesha) added seven as the Titans hit .485 on 35 attempts.
After not registering a block in the first game, UW-Oshkosh had nine stuffs in the second game, including four by Gus Odorizzi (Fr. • Pleasant Prairie) and three each from Breier and Mike Murphy (Jr. • Richland Center). The Titans only had 10 kills in the second game, but also recorded three of their five service aces in the match.
The Titans hit .456 in game three to finish off the sweep of the Pointers. Callaway, Cotter and Odorizzi each had three kills and Odorizzi added three blocks.
Cotter led the Titans with 16 kills on the night, followed by Callaway with 12. Justin Soukup (So. • Madison) led UW-Oshkosh with 10 digs with Callaway adding nine and Cotter eight. Odorizzi collected seven kills and six blocks and Ryan Schultz (Fr. • Wauwatosa) dished out 29 assists. Mike Heup (Fr. • Oconomowoc) added 14 assists and two blocks and Greg Lulich (Jr. • Ashland) had five digs.
