UW-Oshkosh Keeps Streak Going In Midwest Ten (3-9-08)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won the regular season title for a dominating sixth straight time and the conference tournament championship for fourth consecutive time at the Midwest Ten Conference play date and tournament championship held on Saturday (March 8) in Milwaukee.

UW-Oshkosh (37-2), currently ranked #1 according to the latest NIRSA Division I poll, finished off the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record by defeating Ball State University (Ind.), 25-22, 23-25, 15-8 and Illinois State University, 25-22, 2218.

Brandon Kirkland (Sr. • Racine) and Danny Hessling (Jr. • Greenfield) led the team against the Cardinals with seven and six kills, respectively. John Erickson (Sr. • Ripon) added five kills on five attempts and Nathan Sederberg (Sr. • Racine) had eight digs and Aaron Wayne (Sr. • New Berlin) added seven. Andy Schinner (Fr. • Mequon) dished out 29 assists.

Nathan Malewiski (Sr. • New Franken), in his first action in over a month due to injury, had nine kills against the Redbirds to lead the Titans. Erickson added eight kills and Sederberg and Dan Ruys (Fr. • Kimberly) each had seven put-downs with Kirkland assisting on 28 of the Titans 34 kills. Wayne scooped up a tournament-high nine digs.

Advancing to the conference tournament as the number one seed, UW-Oshkosh defeated Illinois State University, 25-13, 25-18 in the quarterfinals, #23 ranked Marquette University 25-14, 25-17 in the semifinals and #4 ranked Lakeland College, 26-24, 25-21 in the championship match. The Titans also beat the Muskies in last year's title match.

Highlighted by an eight kills on 10 errorless attempts effort from Erickson, the Titans hit .509 in the match. Sederberg and Tyler Boddy (Fr. • New Ulm, Minn.) each added seven kills. Wayne patrolled the back court with six digs, while adding two service aces and Schinner ran the offense with 29 assists.

UW-Oshkosh's blocking heated up against the Golden Eagles in the romp with Hessling tallying five and Schinner four. Erickson added a tournament-high five service aces and Sederberg had a team-leading 10 kills. Ruys added six kills on eight attempts and Schinner dished out 23 assists.

The outside hitting duo of Sederberg and Boddy led the Titans to their fourth win of the season over the Muskies. Sederberg had 13 kills and four digs and Boddy slammed down 10 kills on 15 attempts. Erickson had three service aces and three blocks and Wayne tallied five digs. Schinner again led the offense with 27 assists.

"I can't say enough about our effort as a team today," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "When we rely on each other we can look pretty darn good. We beat some very good teams today and the team should be proud of their effort in keeping an amazing streak going in the conference."
