Oshkosh II Gets 30th Win (3-19-08)
The UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team built big leads in games one and two and came back from a late deficit in game two to sweep Northland Baptist Bible College, 30-22, 30-28, 30-24 in a match held on Tuesday (March 18) in Dunbar.

UW-Oshkosh II (30-6), which won its 30th game for the fourth time in its six-year history, lead 20-12 in game one and held at least a five-point advantage for the remainder of the contest for a quick 1-0 lead in the match. Mike Callaway (Sr. • Waukesha) had five kills and Mike Murphy (Jr. • Richland Center) was a perfect three for three in kill attempts in the game.

Northland Baptist Bible College's defense heated up in the second game as they gradually pulled out to a 27-24 cushion before UW-Oshkosh responded. After the Titans closed to within 27-26, Murphy and Callaway combined on the Titans' first block of the game to tie the score at 27-27. Two more points for the Titans gave the visitors a game-point opportunity at 29-27 before the Pioneers finally sided-out. Kurt Breier (Sr. • Kimberly) ended game-two with a kill as the Titans finished the stanza on a 6-1 scoring run.

UW-Oshkosh sprinted out to a 12-3 lead in game three before Northland Baptist Bible College went on a 7-0 scoring skein to close to within 12-10. A solo block by Gus Odorizzi (Fr. • Pleasant Prairie) and two service aces by Ryan Schultz (Fr. • Wauwatosa) helped the Titans hold off the Pioneers for the sweep.

Callaway led the Titans with 14 kills, followed by Odorizzi's nine kills and Murphy's eight kills and three blocks. Jim Hall (Jr. • Appleton) led the team with 13 digs and Bradie Williams (Fr. • Middleton) had 31 assists. Schultz dished out 10 assists and Jordan Mattingly (Fr. • Kaukauna) had seven kills.

"We played very well tonight," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "We were missing three members of our team, including both of our starting left side hitters so for us to go in and sweep a good team on the road is a positive step as we get ready for MIVA's and the WVC state championship."
