UWO Gets New Recruit From Waukesha West (3-20-08)
Bill Meidenbauer, a 6-4 left side hitter from Waukesha has decided to become a member of the 2008-2009 UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team, announced head coach Brian Schaefer.
"I am pleased that Bill has chosen UW-Oshkosh," said Schaefer. "We have four outside hitters that will be graduating in the next two years so we needed to address that position in terms of recruiting. Bill is a versatile athlete that will make the depth of our team next year even better."
Meidenbauer played for head coach Chris Hatch at Waukesha West High School and is a current member of the Next Level junior Olympic volleyball club coached by Mike Moe. Hatch is a former UW-Oshkosh left side hitter that won the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference title in 2000.
As a Wolverine, Meidenbauer was named first-team All-Classic 8 Conference in 2007 and second-team in 2006. At Waukesha West, he was selected the team captain and most valuable player in 2007 and the 2005, 2006 and 2007 offensive player of the year. This past season he was named second-team all-state and second-team all-area.
Meidenbauer also was a two-year varsity starter in basketball in high school. He is the son of Jeanne and Ron and is undecided on an intended major.
"The size of the campus is perfect, not too big and not too small," said Meidenbauer. "The school offers a variety of options for majors which is important because I am undecided. Most importantly, I really like the way the volleyball program is set up at UW-Oshkosh and the support that it receives from the school."
