Oshkosh II Wins Sixth Straight Regular Season Title (3-8-08)
The UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team won its sixth straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II regular season title by finishing with a 6-1 record and winning the regular season conference tournament.
UW-Oshkosh (23-6) finished its schedule with a 25-13, 25-19 victory over UW-Whitewater II to gain the number one seed for the upcoming WVC State championship. Mike Cotter (So. • Appleton) tallied 10 kills and three service aces to lead the Titans. Mike Callaway (Sr. • Waukesha) contributed seven kills and Bradie Williams (Fr. • Cross Plains) dished out 22 assists and had three service aces.
In the semifinals of the regular season conference tournament the Titans recovered from losing the first game against Marquette University II to post a 19-25, 25-10, 15-7 victory. After committing 10 hitting errors in the first game the Titans had only one in games two and three. UW-Oshkosh managed 10 kills on 15 attempts in game three, including three each from Cotter, Gus Odorizzi (Fr. • Pleasant Prairie) and Chris Schinner (Jr. • Mequon).
Williams led the offense by tallying 26 assists and Cotter finished with 12 kills and three service aces. Odorizzzi contributed seven kills and three blocks and Jim Hall (Jr. • Appleton) had six digs. Kurt Breier (Sr. • Kimberly) had two solo blocks and Schinner ended the match with six kills.
In the championship match, UW-Oshkosh came back for the second consecutive match from one game down to beat Northland Baptist Bible College, 20-25, 25-19, 15-8. After a slow start offensively in game one, the Titans slammed down 17 kills in the second game and had seven kills on 10 errorless attempts in the third game.
Cotter again led the team offensively with his third straight double-digit kills performance on the day with 10 put downs. Schinner had seven kills and three service aces and Breier finished with six kills on six attempts and a team-leading four blocks. Williams amassed 33 assists and Hall had six digs.
