New Middle Blocker Recruit From Appleton North (4-16-08)
Parker Gross, a 6-4 middle blocker from Appleton has decided to attend UW-Oshkosh and participate on the men's volleyball team announced head coach Brian Schaefer. Gross becomes the sixth person to decide to attend UW-Oshkosh and become a member of the 2008-2009 team.
Gross, a three-year member of the Appleton North high school varsity team won three consecutive Fox Valley Conference titles and advanced to the state tournament three years, highlighted with a third place finish in 2006. Last year the Lightning lost to Wauwatosa East in five-games in the WIAA quarterfinals.
Gross was named first-team all-conference last season and was named the FVA Player of the Year after slamming down 210 kills and adding 104 blocks on the season. His high school coach is Mike Maass.
Other high school sports for Gross include a two-year stint on the basketball team and a member of the track and field team. Currently in the middle of his fourth season on the track and field team, Gross has helped the Lightning to two straight Fox Valley Conference team titles by placing fifth in the triple jump last year.
He is currently a member of the North Shore junior Olympic volleyball team, one of the best club programs in the nation and is coached by Brad Kuehl.
Gross will be majoring in business and is the son of Kerry and David Gross. "I chose UW-Oshkosh because of their reputation as one of the best club programs in the nation," said Gross. "Playing for this team will give me an opportunity to play at the highest level of club volleyball. UW-Oshkosh has a great campus and an excellent business program for my future major."
