Oshkosh Squeaks By Lakeland in WVC Battle (2-13-10)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match over Lakeland College to remain undefeated in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference on Friday (Feb. 12) in Sheboygan.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked second in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation won in set scores of 23-25, 25-13, 26-28, 25-21, 15-12. With the win the Titans improve to 2-1 on the season against 10th-ranked Lakeland College and take a 2.5 match lead over UW-Whitewater in the WVC.

UW-Oshkosh (11-1/7-0 WVC) fell behind early in the match, trailing 15-7 before chipping away at the lead. The Titans closed to within 23-21 and 24-23 before the Muskies took the opening set.

Set two was all UW-Oshkosh as they collected five blocks in the twelve point win. Set three was tied eight times before Lakeland College took a 2-1 lead in sets. Refusing to go home, the Titans responded in set four by recording 14 kills in the stanza.

In the deciding fifth set UW-Oshkosh grabbed a 4-1 advantage and held leads of 9-5 and 12-6 as Bill Meidenbauer (So. - Waukesha) recorded two service aces and Aaron Wayne (Sr. - New Berlin) one of his own. Trailing 14-9, the Muskies went on a three point run to close to within 14-12 before a missed serve gave the match to the Titans.

"We are still trying to find our offense," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "As good as Nate is as a setter he is still new to running a 5-1 offense. He is doing a good job at distributing the ball right now and as the year progresses he will figure out who is hot, blocking mismatches and who to set at what times during the match."

Four UW-Oshkosh players recorded double-digit kills led by Harris Jorgenson (Fr. - Burlington) with 13, Tyler Boddy (Jr. - New Ulm, Minn.) 12 and Meidenbauer and Ruys with 11. Wayne scooped up 13 digs and Nate Sederberg (Sr. - Racine) dished out 46 assists and had nine digs.

Boddy and Danny Hessling (Sr. - Greenfield) each had six blocks and Ruys added five as the Titans finished with 13 in the match. Boddy, Meidenbauer and Wayne each finished with two service aces.

"I am happy on the result as we found a way to win in a hard place to play," added Schaefer. "We are known for our offense so it was refreshing to see that other areas of our game led to our victory."
