UW-Oshkosh III Starts Strong In WVC Action (1-31-10)
The UW-Oshkosh III team went 3-1 at the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II Play Date held on Saturday (Jan. 30) in Sheboygan. UW-Oshkosh III (9-3) defeated Marquette University II 26-24, 25-20, Ripon College 25-7, 25-13 and St. Norbert College 25-21, 21-25, 15-7 before losing to Northland International University 26-24, 25-14. Alex Reynolds (Sr. - South Milwaukee) led the team with 10 kills against the Golden Eagles. Lang Lee Lee (Fr. - Kaukauna) added seven kills and Steve Brunelli (So. - Greenfield) six as the Titans totaled 30 in the match. Mike Heup (Jr. - Oconomowoc) dished out 22 assists and Andy Collins (Jr. - Germantown) tallied two blocks. Brunelli scooped up six digs, Brian Fox (Jr. - Fond du Lac) had five and Tim Spengler (So. - Greenfield) four in the sweep. In the win over first time opponent Ripon College seven UW-Oshkosh players tallied at least two kills in the rout. Heup ran the offense with 13 assists and added five digs and Brunelli tacked on five service aces. Seeing his first action since an ankle injury, David Catoe (Fr. - Racine) had five digs. Reynolds and Lee Lee each had 10 kills in the win over St. Norbert College. Fox tallied 19 digs and had two service aces, Brunelli had six kills and Collins five kills to go along with three blocks. The Titans' hitting went south in the loss to Northland International University. The Titans had five players with three kills but couldn't overcome 12 hitting errors. Fox amassed eight digs and Eric Brandenburg (Fr. - Elgin, Ill.) had five blocks. "We did a good job today overcoming the loss of Evan Fahl (Jr. - Appleton) and Will Brydon (So. - Northbrook, Ill.)," said coach Kurt Breier. "We have good depth on the Division III team and when healthy we will be a very solid."
