The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team improved to 9-0 in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference with a 25-13, 32-30, 25-18 blanking of Marquette University on senior night on Wednesday (Feb. 24) in Kolf Sports Center. After a quick win in set one, the Golden Eagles made things interesting as they held a 23-22 advantage in set two. A block by Mike Cotter (Sr. - Appleton) and Zach Johnson (Fr. - Homestead) knotted the score at 23-23. From there, Marquette University served for set point on seven straight opportunities before the Titans finally took a 31-30 advantage on a hitting error. On the next play, a dig by Aaron Wayne (Sr. - New Berlin) led to a Tyler Boddy (Jr. - New Ulm, Minn.) kill for a 2-0 advantage in sets. UW-Oshkosh (13-1), ranked eighth in the NCVF Division I poll, finished off the sweep to claim a 3-0 advantage in matches this season over Marquette University. "Marquette University played hard as usual," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "They are a scrappy team and fun to play against. This year if we are passing well we have the firepower on offense to stay at a high level." Nate Sederberg (Sr. - Racine) led the team with 12 kills and added five service aces and 17 assists. Boddy had eight kills and four digs and Wayne tallied six digs and three service aces. Hessling patrolled the net with five blocks and seven kills, Andrew Schinner (Jr. - Mequon) had 26 assists and Bill Meidenbauer (So. - Waukesha) had six kills in seven attempts. After set two, the trio of Hessling, Sederberg and Wayne were honored as the Titans Division I graduating seniors. "These three individuals are among the most decorated players in Titans' history," added Schaefer. "It is due to their talent and dedication that UW-Oshkosh is one of the most recognized programs in nation."
