Boddy Leads Way as Titans Down Warhawks in Five (3-4-10)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team put itself in position to win its second consecutive Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season title with a 27-29, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 15-9 win over UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Mar. 3) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh (20-2/10-0 WVC) heads into the WVC state championship with a two match lead over second-place Lakeland College.

The Titans, who are currently ranked fourth in the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll, play UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout at the WVC state championship to finish out their regular season slate. Those four teams have a combined 13-27 record in the WVC.

"Our goal as a program is to start the post season with a WVC state championship," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "It is nice to be in contention to win the regular season and enter the championship with a number one seed."

After losing the first set in extended fashion, the Titans took a 2-1 set lead after collecting 15 kills in set two and 17 kills in set three. The third stanza saw UW-Oshkosh hit .667 with Mike Cotter (Sr. - Appleton) leading the way with a five for five kill performance.

Leading 22-18 in set four and on the brink of closing out the match, UW-Oshkosh gave up a five-point run to trail 23-22 before finally siding out. The Titans committed two more hitting errors to allow the deciding fifth set.

"We should not have lost the fourth set," added Schaefer. "We are still struggling with putting teams away. It came down to poor setting choices, shot selections and people trying to take over the match instead of a team effort."

UW-Oshkosh responded right away in the deciding set, taking leads of 8-2 and 11-4 before finally putting the match away. "As upsetting as it was to go to the fifth set I am pleased with our effort at the end," stated Schaefer. "We forced them into hitting errors with great serving and our block came around."

Tyler Boddy (Jr. - New Ulm, Minn.) led the team with 19 kills on a .600 hitting percentage. Cotter added 12 kills, Danny Hessling (Sr. - Greenfield) and Dan Ruys (Jr. - Kimberly) 11 and Bill Meidenbauer (So. - Waukesha) nine. Aaron Wayne (Sr. - New Berlin) snatched 12 digs and Nate Sederberg (Sr. - Racine) dished out 59 assists and collected nine digs and four service aces.

"Mike Cotter played great tonight," said Schaefer. "He really came off the bench and gave us a spark against a great team. I am also proud of Bill Meidenbauer for coming out and playing hard despite being extremely sick."
