UW-Oshkosh Lands Two Major Recruits for 2015-2016 (2-1-15)
Head coach Brian Schaefer is pleased to announce that Bryan Batchelor and Jake Martin have decided to attend UW-Oshkosh and play on the men's volleyball team. They join fellow 2015-2016 recruits Alexander Basting (Franklin), John Collins (New Berlin West), Matt Pedersen (Muskego) and Michael Skora (Westosha Central) as committed future Titans.

"I continue to be impressed of the number of young men that are selecting UW-Oshkosh to not only continue their education; but to participate in high level men's volleyball," said Schaefer. "Jake and Bryan both attended our camp last summer and I knew that we wanted them to be a part of our program. Both will make an immediate impact for our team."

Batchelor, a 6-5 middle blocker played volleyball at Burlington High School under the direction of Tim Gesteland his junior year and Kayla Uhlenhake his senior year. The Demons were sectional champions in 2014 and advanced to the WIAA state tournament semifinals after coming back from a 2-0 deficit in the quarterfinals against Middleton High School. In 2013 they were the Southeast Conference champions. Batchelor was named All-County honorable mention his senior campaign.

He is currently a member of Southport Volleyball Club coached by Brian Sharkey. He is the son of Bill and Julie Batchelor and his intended major at UW-Oshkosh is business.

"I feel UW-Oshkosh is the best place to get a solid education, play a sport I love and have fun," said Batchelor. "I really was drawn to the size of the campus and the great team chemistry. Oshkosh men's volleyball has the reputation as being the best and I want to be a part of it."

Martin, a 6-2 libero plays volleyball for Lincoln-Way West High School (Ill.) under the direction of Rori Olson and Brian Thorpe. Heading into his senior year he was named All-Area as a junior and broke his own school record in digs in 2014. He has earned varsity letters as a sophomore, junior and will as a senior in the spring.

He was a member of the Warriors cross country team junior and senior years and academically achieved honors each year of high school.

He currently plays for Ultimate Volleyball Club and is coached by Tim Huzinga. He is the son of Daniel and Maureen Martin and will study criminal justice at UW-Oshkosh.

"I choose Oshkosh because I believe it is the most competitive collegiate club team in the country and because it has a strong criminal justice program," said Martin.

"Jake is our first state of Illinois recruit this year and that is important," added Schaefer. "We have a new program at UW-Oshkosh called Midwest Student Exchange that makes UW-Oshkosh very affordable for out-of-state residents. With this new incentive, and the fact that we are a very strong program, many volleyball players in the Chicago area are reaching out to us."
