UW-Oshkosh Runs Table at WVC Play Date (2-8-15)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team took a huge step in claiming its seventh straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season conference title by sweeping UW-Platteville, UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 7) at the WVC Play Date in La Crosse.
The Titans (6-0; 6-0 WVC), who are currently ranked #1 in the nation according to the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll, have not lost a set in WVC action this season.
UW-Oshkosh started the day with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-10 win over the Pioneers. Eight Titans recorded at least three or more kills as the team hit .485 on 40 kills. Wesley Morioka (Jr. - Chicago, Ill.) provided a team high seven kills on 11 attempts, followed by six kills by Tony Mack (So. - Muskego) and Allen Grunert (So. - Muskego). Tyler Range (Jr. - Kenosha) and Travis Hudson (Jr. - Wauwatosa) added five kills each.
Hudson dished out 32 assists and added four service aces, Range had five blocks and Tyler Wiedenhoeft (Sr. - Mequon) had four digs.
UW-Oshkosh recorded a 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 win over the #3 ranked (NCVF Division II) Eagles, giving them their first loss in conference. Jake Ahnert (Sr. - Burlington) led the Titans offense with nine kills, including going five for five in set two. Wiedenhoeft provided nine digs and Grunert added six kills and three blocks. Hudson had 32 assists and three service aces.
The Titans faced a 14-10 deficit in set one, before going on a 15-5 run to end the stanza.
UW-Oshkosh produced a 25-17, 25-19, 26-24 victory over UW-Eau Claire (#11 NCVF Division II) behind the offensive output of Morioka, Erik Harke (Sr. - Kimberly) and Range. Morioka had 10 kills on 15 attempts and Harke and Range each had eight kills. Hudson dished out 32 assists and Michael Wamboldt (So. - Kenosha) had six digs.
Next up for the Titans is a trip to Iowa for the University of Iowa Challenge on February 14, 2015 in Iowa City.
