UW-Oshkosh III Sweeps Carroll University (2-10-15)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team returned home for a match against Carroll University and swept the visitors 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 on Tuesday (February 10) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Oshkosh III (5-4) took an early lead in set one behind the hitting of Stuart Burkart (Jr. - Wauwatosa) who was a perfect five for five in the frame. Steve Cotton (So. - Muskego) added four kills and Andrew Shea (So. - Brookfield) put down three as the Titans hit .435 in the set.
UW-Oshkosh III held a 19-14 lead in set two before the Pioneers scored five straight points to knot the score at 19-19. After a kill by Josh Preiss (Jr. - New Berlin) put the Titans up by one point, UW-Oshkosh III got a service ace by Joe Kuchler (So. - Muskego) to force a Carroll University time out. The Pioneers closed to within a point at 21-20 before trading side outs until a 24-22 advantage by the Titans. UW-Oshkosh III ended the set with a kill by Preiss.
UW-Oshkosh III fought back from a 14-10 deficit in set three by going on a 15-4 run to end the match. Preiss and Cotton each had a solo block and Tate Cocking (Fr. - Appleton) and Burkart combined for another to jump start the Titans.
Cotton and Burkart led the Titans with eight kills each in the match. Shea ended the night with six kills and Preiss had five kills in six attempts in two sets of action. Kuchler provided eight digs and Andy Rowley (Fr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 27 assists and scooped up four digs. Shea and Kuchler added two service aces each. The Titans struggled from the service line with 12 miscues.
Next up for UW-Oshkosh III team is a trip to Iowa for the University of Iowa Spring Challenge on Saturday (Feb. 14).
