Oshkosh III Opens WVC Division II Play Undefeated (2-9-15)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team started the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference season going undefeated by outlasting three opponents on Saturday (February 7) in Oshkosh.
UW-Oshkosh III defeated Carroll University 19-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-12, Marquette University II 26-24, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-10 and Maranatha Baptist University 25-22, 25-23, 25-11.
UW-Oshkosh III (3-0 WVC; 5-4 Overall) was led by Steve Cotton (So. - Muskego) with 11 kills in the win over Carroll University. Andrew Shea (So. - Brookfield) had nine kills and three blocks and Andy Rowley (Fr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 40 assists and added two service aces.
In the five-set win over the Golden Eagles, Shea led the team with 13 kills on a .346 hitting percentage. Cotton provided 12 kills and Stuart Burkart (Jr. - Wauwatosa) and Trent Farrell (Fr. - New Berlin) each had nine kills. Tate Cocking (Fr. - Appleton) slammed down seven kills as the Titans had 51 in the match.
Farrell added seven blocks and Cotton amassed five blocks to help the Titans' defense. Kuchler scooped up 20 digs and Rowley topped the team with 47 assists and tallied nine digs. UW-Oshkosh III was hampered with 19 missed serves.
In the nightcap the Titans had equal distribution on the offensive end against Marantha Baptist University as Cotton and Shea each had seven kills and Burkart and Farrell had six put aways in the match. Josh Preiss (Jr. - New Berlin) topped the team with five blocks, including two solo blocks and Rowley once again led the team with 39 assists on the team's 41 kills.
Kuchler provided 14 digs and three service aces, David Edelmann (Fr. - Belleville, Ill.) added six digs and Danny Mirda (So. - Brookfield) and Alex Woodward (Fr. - Racine) each had two service aces. Cocking added four blocks in the three-set sweep.
The Titans had 11 service aces in the win and hit .365 in the match. The Titans have now won 17 of their last 19 WVC Division II matches.
