Oshkosh III Downs Maranatha Baptist In Four (2-21-15)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team came back from a big deficit in the fourth set to secure a 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-23 victory over Maranatha Baptist University on Thursday (Feb. 20) in Watertown.

UW-Oshkosh III (8-6) found itself down 16-9 in the fourth set before going on a 12-4 run to take a 21-20 advantage. The two teams traded points until the Titans took a 24-22 lead on a SabreCats hitting error. After a kill attempt by Tate Cocking (Fr. - Appleton) led to an overpass, Andrew Shea (So. - Brookfield) ended the match on his 18th kill of the night.

The Titans won a close first set behind four kills by Shea and Trent Farrell (Fr. - New Berlin), and dominated the second stanza with the help of five more kills by Farrell and four put aways by Josh Preiss (Jr. - New Berlin).

Marantha Baptist University forced a fourth set with scrappy defense and with the gift of eight hitting errors and five missed serves in the third frame. Steve Cotton (So. - Muskego) had five kills in the set to lead the Titans offense.

Looking like match was going to go to a deciding fifth set, the Titans responded after being down early. Cocking slammed down three straight kills and four hitting errors by the hosts helped the visitors claw back. UW-Oshkosh helped its cause by tallying 14 of its 36 digs in the frame.

"I like how we fought back in the fourth set," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "We have a very young UW-Oshkosh III team this year so they are figuring out ways to play not only with one another, but also within themselves. Earlier in the year I don't think we would have come back, but the guys are sticking together better and we were able to get the fourth-set win in a fun environment."

Shea added three service aces to go along with his team high 18 kills. Farrell ended the contest with 13 kills on a .550 hitting percentage and Cotton had 12 kills. Preiss added nine kills on 13 attempts as the Titans had 59 in the match and over 14 in each set.

Joe Kuchler (So. - Muskego) scooped up 16 digs and added three service aces, David Edelmann (Fr. - Belleville, Ill) and Alex Woodward (Fr. - Racine) each had six digs and Andy Rowley (Fr. - Wauwatosa) had a match high 52 assists.

"We still need to eliminate some little mistakes and we had a few too many hitting and serving errors," added Schaefer. "But now our misses are closer because the guys are trying to do the right things. All of that will get better as the season progresses."
