UW-Oshkosh III Takes Second at the WVC State Championship (4-9-17)
The UW-Oshkosh III men’s volleyball team took runner-up honors for the second consecutive season at the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II championship. UW-Oshkosh III, who also took second place in the WVC regular season was defeated by UW-Oshkosh II 20-25, 25-17, 15-11 in the championship match.
In the championship match, UW-Oshkosh III was led by Quinn Arndt (Fr. – Muskego) who had 11 digs and added one service ace. Matt Pedersen (So. – Muskego) dished out 26 assists and added four digs and two block solos, Steve Seaman (Fr. – Muskego) provided six kills, three service aces, four digs and two solo blocks and Joey Mack (So. – Muskego) had seven kills and three blocks. Steve Cotton (Sr. – Muskego) added seven kills and Reed Bogrand (Fr. – Mukwonago) smashed down six kills as the Titans had 28 kills in the match.
On Friday (April 7) the Titans defeated UW-Whitewater II, 25-17, 25-11 and UW-Stevens Point, 25-17, 25-19 to finish in first place in their initial pool to advance to the semifinals of the championship. In the semifinals on Saturday (April 8) UW-Oshkosh III defeated Michigan Tech University, 25-15, 25-19 to advance to the championship.
In the semifinals against the Huskies, Cotton led the Titans with six kills on seven attempts and added two blocks. Seaman had five kills and five digs, Mack had four kills and five digs and Arndt piled up 10 digs. Pedersen ran the offense with 16 assists and two blocks and Dave Edelmann (Jr. – Belleville, Ill.) ended the match with five digs.
In pool play UW-Oshkosh III was led by Bogrand with six kills and a solo block against UW-Whitewater II. Pedersen amassed 19 assists, Seaman added eight digs and Arndt piled up seven digs and two service aces. The Titans hit .381 in the match.
In the match against the Pointers the Titans slammed down 27 kills led by Seaman with eight and Mack with seven. Pedersen ran the offense with 19 assists, Seaman had eight digs and Mack added six digs and one block solo. Bogrand had four kills and two block solos and Cotton reached six kills.
Seaman was named to the six-person WVC State Championship all-tournament team.
